Sadar Hills ADC imbroglio CM, HM meet 23 members

IMPHAL, Apr 10 : Taking serious note of the crisis unfolding within Sadar Hills ADC after 16 members opened a camp for the past one month demanding removal of Chairman SH Seipu from his post, Chief Minister O Ibobi and Home Minister Gaikhangam who is also MPCC president today took opinions of 23 Members on the issue.

A final decision on who would be made Sadar Hills ADC Chairman would be declared tomorrow after a consultation between the Chief Minister and the MPCC president.

According to information received here, Vice Chairman Haokholal Hangsing who has been leading the rebel camp may be appointed new Chairman of the ADC.

Notably, Sadar Hills ADC has 26 Members including two Government nominees.

The 16 rebel Members led by Haokholal Hangsing have been demanding removal of Chairman Seipu from his post accusing him of running the ADC like his personnel fiefdom.

They alleged that Chairman Seipu never consulted other Members while executing any work as well as sleeping over resolutions adopted by the Council thereby denying any chance of bringing development at the grassroot.

They have already moved a no confidence motion against Chairman Seipu.

As the functions of the ADC have been paralysed because of the tussle for the post of Chairman, Chief Minister O Ibobi and MPCC president Gaikhangam summoned the ADC Members to Congress Bhavan this afternoon and asked their opinion on who should be appointed the Chairman.

The Members were made to write on printed forms the names of their chosen candidates for the post of Chairman.

The whole process of questioning ADC Members was witnessed by Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, MLA Victor Kei-shing, MPCC vice- president Chaltonlien Amo, secretary Jiten and P Sashikanta.

Out of the 26 Members, 23 Members including two Government nominees gave their opinions.

Of the two absentee Members, one has been already suspended from primary membership of the party while the other Member could not attend the hearing on health ground.

After examining the choices made by the Members, a final decision on who would be made Chairman of Sadar Hills ADC would be declared tomorrow after due consultation between the Chief Minister and the MPCC president.

However, Chairman Seipu charged that the process of taking opinions of Members was not free and fair.

He asserted that the rebel Members should be first asked to close down their camp before taking their opinions.

He warned that there would not be stability in Sadar Hills even if a new Chairman is appointed.
